In Switzerland, over 600 distribution grid operators guarantee the supply of electrical energy to households, businesses and industry on a daily basis. The increasing proportion of decentralized electricity generation and the need to increase overall energy efficiency in Switzerland are leading to numerous new challenges for the electricity grids. Intelligent grids - smart grids - are helping to meet these challenges. The intelligent meters (smart meters) installed at end consumers' premises are a component of these grids.
The * statutory ordinance (german StromVV) Act requires a customer interface on the smart meters so that end consumers can retrieve their "measurement data at the moment they are recorded". A wide range of additional devices for visualizing energy consumption is available for this customer interface.
